How a Logistics Giant Moved Mountains for a Saudi Project

In a feat of ingenuity and precision, India-based Express Global Logistics (EXG) successfully managed the intricate challenge of transporting massive modules, each weighing up to 250 tonnes, for a green hydrogen initiative in Saudi Arabia. These 14 colossal units, measuring 50 meters long, 12 meters wide, and 18 meters high, amounted to a staggering 1,500 freight tonnes.

Advanced Technology and Logistics Mastery

EXG utilized cutting-edge Scheuerle self-propelled modular transporters (SPMT) from their formidable Megaload fleet to handle this extensive task. This deployment included 48 axle lines, two power pack units, and custom-engineered spacers. For more than half of the modules, EXG implemented a roll-on roll-off (RoRo) strategy, employing ramp plates and stools for a seamless transition onto the shipping vessels. The operation depended on precise vessel ballasting to uphold stability throughout the journey.

For the remaining modules, EXG expertly conveyed them via SPMTs to the jetty, where skilled operators used powerful crawler cranes to hoist them into their designated positions. This operation required exceptional planning and execution due to its complexity and scale.

Strategic Partnerships and Industry Impact

EXG attributes their success to the proficiency of their engineering and operational teams, emphasizing the sophisticated approach and meticulous attention to detail necessary for such a significant project. The company’s 2023 joint venture with Fagioli, an Italian expert in heavy transport, has further amplified their logistical prowess, allowing them to serve industrial sectors such as petrochemical and construction more efficiently.

As EXG continues to break new ground, their strategic initiatives and technological advancements offer insightful lessons for those navigating the complex world of heavy logistics.
