Tokyo Disneyland is opening its brand new Fantasyland expansion on September 28, 2020, after years of construction! New rides, food, merchandise, and character greetings await you in the Kingdom of Magical Dreams.
The expansion originally had an opening date of April 15, 2020 (the anniversary of Tokyo Disneyland), but due to the global pandemic, the opening was delayed.
What’s opening at Tokyo Disneyland exactly? Let’s find out!
Enchanted Tale of Beauty and the Beast
The flagship and most anticipated attraction is the Enchanted Tale of Beauty and the Beast. This new trackless dark ride immerses you in the classic story of Beauty and the Beast, where you’ll sing and dance while moving through the Beast’s castle in a large teacup!
It’s fun for the entire family and, if you’re like me, you grew up with the animated Disney classic. The nostalgia is strong and paired with the latest animatronic technology, it’s a must.
Once you’re done experiencing a tale as old as time, head on over to the village area where you’re able to shop and dine to your heart’s content. A brand new restaurant called “La Taverne de Gaston” serves up a variety of hearty meals while Le Fou has his own churro stand with an Apple Caramel churro!
The shops offer a wide variety of merchandise to perfect the photos you’re inevitably going to take in this gorgeous new area.
Happy Ride with Baymax
Baymax has his own family-friendly ride based on the Big Hero 6 franchise. You’ll board your vehicle and slide, whip, and dance along with your own personal Baymax over in Tomorrowland.
It’s the perfect ride for families with young children or anyone who is a fan of the franchise. When you’re done, make sure you find the Robot Cat vending machines across the way!
Next door to Happy Ride with Baymax is a brand new popcorn specialty shop called “The Big Pop” where there are a variety of popcorn flavours to choose from, like cookies & cream and caramel cheese. The shop even carries a variety of popcorn buckets including a bucket in the shape of the Baymax ride vehicle!
There’s even a wide variety of merchandise featuring Baymax as well as his “hairy baby”, Mochi!
Minnie’s Style Studio
For the first time at Tokyo Disneyland, Minnie Mouse has her very own dedicated character greeting facility! Until now, you’d only find Minnie Mouse at the front entrance of Tokyo Disneyland. That’s all changed with Minnie’s Style Studio, where you’ll meet her in different fashionable costumes in Toontown.
There’s an assortment of new merchandise to choose from to perfect your outfit when taking that socially distanced selfie with the Queen herself.
