Top 7 Christmas Movies to Ring in the Holiday Season

Top 7 Christmas Movies

Whether you’re looking for some holiday classics to amp you up into the holiday spirit or a series of great films that will last your winter holidays, this list is sure to keep you busy. Here, in no particular order, are the Top 7 Christmas Movies to ring in the Holiday Season:

The Muppet Christmas Carol

You need never have read the Charles Dickens classic to enjoy the Muppet’s telling of A Christmas Carol. Starring the iconic Sir Michael Caine as Ebenezer Scrooge, The Muppet Christmas Carol is amazingly entertaining and filled with moments that are sure to make you smile. Watch the original cut if you can find it: When Love is Gone is a beautiful piece of music which illustrates a turning point in the story that’s lost in modern TV airings.

Miracle on 34th Street

Even the biggest scrooge ought to have a change of heart after seeing this Christmas classic. Santa Claus himself, the real guy, pushes back against the skeptics with a great big heart, a twinkle in his eye, and some Christmas magic. The 1947 original and its 1994 remake are both delightful and sure to touch your heart.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas

The Grinch is perhaps a bigger scrooge than Ebenezer himself. The 2000 live-action film really enhances the original Dr. Seuss story while still staying true to its roots. It’s funny, it’s touching, and it’s beyond nostalgic for those who read the picture book as a kid. Don’t be a Grinch – watch How the Grinch Stole Christmas!

Elf

Of course, “…the best way to spread Christmas Cheer is singing loud for all to hear.” This and many other pearls of wisdom are shared in Elf, starring Will Ferrell and Zooey Deschanel. Rife with hilarity, this comedy about Buddy the Elf definitely brings on the cheer.

Home Alone

A universal favorite nearly 20 years strong, Home Alone has feel-good vibes like no other. The story of the cute and mischievous Kevin McAllister never fails to impress, and Macaulay Culkin’s strong performance can’t be denied. Home Alone 2: Lost in New York is equally precious. This August, Disney announced a modern reboot of the original but until then, enjoy the classics.

It’s a Wonderful Life

In the West, Christmas is a time for family; in Japan it’s a time for friends and lovers. Wherever you are, Christmas is a time to bond with your loved ones, and It’s a Wonderful Life never fails to remind us of the value of life and our relationships. Snuggle up on the sofa with the fam or throw a vintage Christmas evening with some friends and enjoy It’s a Wonderful Life. It’s a Christmas tradition that works everywhere.

A Christmas Prince

A Christmas Prince is so-bad-its-good gold. Even Netflix famously tweeted, “To the 53 people who’ve watched A Christmas Prince every day for the past 18 days: Who hurt you?”Regardless, A Christmas Prince checks all the boxes for a holiday rom-com, topped with questionable acting / costumes / story choices and a LOT of cheese. What’s more, if you couldn’t get enough of A Christmas Prince the first time around, Netflix released a sequel in 2018 and will come out with a third film in 2019, forming a full trilogy of Christmas magic.
